Long ago, the British Isles were not isles at all. Britain was part of the European continent: the English Channel did not exist and East Anglia merged into the Netherlands. Then, about 10,000 years ago - when the last Ice Age had ended, when the bones of the last mammoth had sunk into the mud of the Thames valley, when the climate grew warmer - new rivers and seas were formed and Europe was slowly formed into its present shape.

British education aims us to develop fully the abilities of individuals, For their own benefit and of society as a whole. Post school education is organized flexibly, to provide a wide range of opportunities for academic and vocational education and to continue studying throughout life.
Administration of state schools is decentralized. The department of education and science is responsible for national education policy, but it doesn’t run any schools, it doesn't employ teachers, or prescribe curricula or textbooks. All schools are given a considerable amount of freedom. According to the law only one subject is compulsory. That is religious instruction.

British Parliament the world's oldest
The Parliament of England traces its origin from the Anglo-Saxon Witenagemot. When William the Conqueror, who ruled England from 1066, there were large landowners and advice church hierarchs. In 1215, large landowners have John Lackland signing of the Magna Carta, according to which the king could appoint new taxes (except for some of the old feudal taxes) without the consent of the board of the Royal (royal court), which gradually evolved into a parliament.
In 1265, Simon de Montfort, 6th Earl of Leicester, has collected the first elected Parliament.

1. It was, perhaps, natural that Britain was unable to give proper attention to its relations with Europe until it was no longer an imperial power. Ever since the growth of its trade beyond Europe during the 17th century, Britain had ceased to be fully active in Europe except at moments of crisis. As long as Europe did not interfere with Britain’s trade, and as long as the balance of power in Europe was not seriously disturbed, Britain could happily neglect European affairs.
At the end of the 18th century Napoleonic France drew Britain further into European politics than it had been, perhaps, since the Hundred Years war. In 1815 Britain co-operated with the other European powers to ensure peace, and it withdrew this support because it did not wish to work with the despotic powers then governing most of Europe. For the rest of the century, European affairs took second place to empire and imperial trade.
