The head of the government in Great Britain is the Prime Minister, who is the leader of the political party that commands a majority in the House of Commons. All political power is concentrated in the Prime Minister and the Cabinet. The monarch must act on their advice. The Prime Minister chooses members of the Cabinet from among his own political party in Parliament. Most Cabinet ministers are heads of such government departments as the Home Office or the Foreign Office. The Prime Minister’s authority over the Cabinet colleagues has tendency to increase, and the Prime Minister makes decisions along. He appoints about 25 ministers not in the Cabinet, and about 50 junior ministers.
