English famous people

There are many famous people in Great Britain. Britain produced musicians, writers, scientists, explorers and other people who are well known all over the world. I would like to tell you about such well known people as Isaac Newton, Robert Burns, Charles Dickens, and Charles Darwin.

Isaac Newton was a mathematician and scientist. He was born in a little village in the middle of the 17th century. He studded math at Cambridge University. Newton's contribution to physics astronomy and math is so great that, he may be considered the founder of the mordent mathematics and physics. He discovered the law of motion and the universal law of gravitation. He studded the nature of light and color and came to the conclusion that white color consists of many different colors known as spectrum. He died when he was 84 and was burred at Westminster Abbey.

Robert Burns, a well-known Scottish poet, was born in 1759 into a poor family of a farmer. At the age of six Burns went to school because his father wanted him to be an educated person. The boy liked reading and read a lot. When he was 15 he started writing poems about common people and things around him. Later he organized a society for young people where they could discuss different problems. After his father's death, Robert had to work a small farm, but then he sold it and became an officer. At the age of twenty-seven Burns published his book of poems called Poems.

He also wrote the words of the song Auld Lang Syne, the song which the Scots sing on New Year's Day. Robert Bums died in 1796 in poverty, but people all over the world know and love his poetry.

Charles Dickens is a famous English writer. He was born in a middle class family in Portsmouth, in 1812. He was the eldest child in a large family. When his father got into debt (as he had little money) and then into debtor's prison, little Charles began to work when he was ten. He worked at a small factory in London, pasting labels on blacking bottles. He had to work at the factory for two years. Then he went to school for three years. Later he worked as a reporter to the Parliament and became a writer of short stories. Charles Dickens wrote a lot of novels about ordinary people, whose life he knew very well. His famous novels are: "Oliver Twist","David Copperfield", "Little Dorrit" and many other good books.

Charles Darwin is a great biologist. He was born in the beginning of the 19th century. He created a new theory of evolution. Once there were only simple organisms living in the seas, hundreds millions of years they have developed to produce all the different kind animals and plants we knew today. Darwin's most famous books are 'The Origin of Species' and 'The Descent of Man'.

So, Great Britain has many great people. And I told you only a tiny part of them. But I think that we should remember about great scientist, writers, painters not only from our country, because they made many great things for the whole world.
