   Welcome to Vladikavkaz!

Vladikavkaz is my native town. I have been living there since my birthday. The town is situated on both banks of the Terek River. The river separates one part of the town from the other. Vladikavkaz is surrounded by high mountains in the south. The mountains stretch for many kilometers and are a splendid sight.

The town was founded as a fortress by Russian troops in 1784. it was long the military and political center of Russia in the Caucasus. The fortress was walled and in 1860 the Vladikavkaz fortress was reorganized into a town and soon became a big regional centre.  Now Vladikavkaz is the capital of North Ossetia. It is the centre of the industrial, cultural and educational life of the republic North Ossetia-Alania.

Vladikavkaz experiences a humid continental climate with warm, wet summers and cold, drier winters. Average temperature in January is about -4 °C, in July +23 °C.

The city is served by the bus network (marshrutkas). There are also tram (since 1904) and trolleybus (since 1977) networks. There is railway terminal in Vladikavkaz.  The city is served by Beslan Airport located 15 kilometers from the city.

Vladikavkaz is more than 200 years old and yet it is young. Center  of the city is executed in Art Nouveau and eclecticism. A lot of big houses, shops and markets appear in my town. It becomes more beautiful. There are some squares, big and little parks, libraries, cinemas and theatres in Vladikavkaz.

It is a multinational town: Ossets, Russian, Armenians, Greeks, Georgians and people of other nationalities live there.

All year around many tourists come to this town. One can’t help admiring beautiful buildings, monuments and places of interest in it: the park of culture and rest, the Mosque, a lot of magical beauty churches, the Terek embankment, the monument to Khetagurov, Lenin, and other eminent persons of our country, Memorial of Glory which is dedicated to veterans of the Great Patriotic War, Peace avenue and others. There are Ossetian Church, Church of Prophet Elijah, St. George's Cathedral, the Armenian Church of St. Gregory the Illuminator, temple of the Holy Virgin. The guests of my town can also visit museums, theatres and go to the country to enjoy the beauties of  forests and mountains.
