The Organic Food Show

Today more and more people in Britain want good food they can trust. As a result, the demand for organic food is growing. Organic food is produced without harmful synthetic chemicals and using natural, non-intensive farming methods which are equally for plants and animals.

More than a quarter of households already buy some organic food. Organic plain yogurt is now a brand leader, organic milk disappears as fast as it is put on the shelves, while organic bread, carrots and potatoes are becoming the food of choice. There is no doubt, too, that, if the price is right, most people would prefer to buy organic.

The British Organic Food Association will start a campaign “We Prefer Organic” in Oxford. More than 600 products entries collectively representing the crème de la crème of the new food revolution which is sweeping the country will be tasted. The week of tasting will culminate at Raymond restaurant near Oxford, where the final judging takes place. The judgment will be made by a panel of chefs and food experts to sample some of the best organic food in Britain.

It is encouraging to see entries from conventional manufacturers such as Hartley’s, as well as supermarket own-brand organic products. It means greater availability and more competitive prices.

The judges in for a tough time: they will be tackling 36 different sausages, 44 breads, cakes and pastries, 61 preserves and condiments, not to mention fabulous ice-creams and cheeses. The range and diversity of entries – including organic Chinese winter melons show how fast organic food is moving.

  Dear Jack

I am writing in response to your letter about Moscow and its sights.

In Moscow huge quantity of historical seats, but I to you shall tell about the greatest places of interest. For example, one of the largest seats is the Kremlin. The Moscow Kremlin, a wonderful monument of history and architecture, for a long time already became a symbol not only Moscow, but also all Russia.

The unique and stately ensemble of the Kremlin rises at the center of capital, on Borovickom a hill. Word 'the Kremlin' named in Ancient Russia the central, strengthened part of city. The Moscow Kremlin which in the beginning was wooden, for the first time is mentioned in the annals of 1156 as ' a fortress Moscow'.

At that time it borrowed only a southwest part of a hill. In 1326-1327 on the highest point Боровицкого of a hill has been constructed Uspensky a cathedral – the first stone cathedral in the Kremlin. And in 1366-1368 at Prince Dmitry Donskom the first stone Kremlin has been erected also. 18 century has begun for the Kremlin a terrible fire.

Under Peter's I order in the burnt out part between Trinity and Sobakinoj towers have started to build the Arsenal. Construction has finished in 1736 at Empress Anna Ioannovne. Before a building of the Arsenal it has been established the Tsar-gun, cast in 1586 master Andrey Chohovym. This biggest on calibre the instrument in the world. In 1735 for it have cast a pig-iron gun carriage and kernels.

Today Tsar-gun is placed on a special stone pedestal near a cathedral of Twelve Apostles in the Kremlin. One huger place of interest of the Kremlin – the Tsar-bell cast under the decree of Anna Ioannovny in 1733-1735 by Russian masters and M. Matorinymi. During a fire of 1737 from Tsar-bell has broken away a piece in weight about 700 poods.

Till 1836 the bell was in a foundry hole, and then has been lifted on a pedestal built under the project of architect O. Monferrana. Today Tsar-bell is placed with bottom of a bell tower of Ivan Velikogo. In the end the 19-beginning of 20 centuries the Kremlin was more and more perceived by contemporaries as a monument of history and culture of Russia.

There was even a project which assumed to transform as a result all complex of the Kremlin into a huge museum, but to realization of these plans October revolution has prevented.

In 1970-1980 years in Moskovsk the Kremlin unique repair work-restoration on scale has been lead, and in 1990 the Kremlin has been entered into list a worldwide cultural heritage of UNESCO.

In 1991 the State historical and cultural memorial estate 'the Moscow Kremlin' into which structure have entered the Armory Museum, Uspenski, the Arkhangelsk, Blagoveshchensk cathedrals, church Rizpolozhenija, the Museum of an applied art and a life of Russia of 17 centuries, an architectural ensemble of a bell tower of Ivan Velikogo has been created.

One more major place of interest is the Red area. The red area is the central area of Moscow. It is located before east wall of the Kremlin and from three sides is limited by a building of the State Historical museum, building Vasily Blazhennogo's cathedral.

The red area during many centuries served arena of the important events of domestic history. Occurrence of the Red area concerns to the end of 15 centuries when under the order of tsar Ivan III wooden constructions around of the Kremlin have been taken down, threatened to an imperial residence constant fires.
